The Glitch Who Stole Christmas

by XPERITUS

Twas the night before Christmas,
And beyond the dark skies,
We knew creatures were stirring,
who planned to end all our lives.
The cannons were all armed and readied with care
In fears the Prometheus soon would be there.

The pilots all huddled, snug in their HERCs,
Ready to blast at whatever lurks;
And with me at my post, standing guard that night,
We all settled in for a long bitter fight;

When up in the sky there arose such a roar,
I sprang to the screen to try to learn more.
I boosted the scanners and discovered our fate,
Our enemies were landing all over the place

I focused in on one landing site,
and saw something moving in the search light,

When, what did I see as I stretched wide my eyelids,
But a lander in a crater, and 8 deadly Cybrids,
A transmission came in as they jumped out of the ditch,
The decoder said it came from the Glitch.

More rapid than vipers his Cybrids they came,
And he signalled and broadcast and called them by name:
"Go Smasher!, go Slasher!, go Blaster and Flayer
On Ripper!, on Shredder!, on Slicer and Slayer "

"To the top of that tower! to the top of that wall!"
Now blast away//blast away//blast away all!"

As dry leaves that before a wild fire give way,
When they met with an obstacle, it got burned away;
So up to the top of our towers they came,
Amidst the sound of explosions and great gouts of flame.

And then, in an instant, I heard on the roof
The banging and clanging of each metal hoof.
As I drew forth my weapon and was turning around,
They tore a hole in the ceiling and then one dropped down.

It was clad all in armor, from its head to its foot,
The armor was steaming, it smelled of ashes and soot.
A full load of missles it had mounted in back,
And it looked like a nightmare as it began its attack.

Some type of cannon fired straight from its head,
The muzzle was smoking and glowing bright red;
It was bristling with weapons, had one on its belly
that could turn even dura-steel to a lump of black jelly.

It was spiky and dark, this deadly machine,
Like no other horror I ever had seen;
The glow of its blaster and a twist of its head,
Soon gave me to know this was a creature to dread;

It said not a word, but went straight to its work,
And fired all its weapons; then turned with a jerk,
And training its laser in my general direction,
It made me dive for some type of protection;

It fired again, with a great flash of light,
wasting all that stood before its terrible might.
But I heard it announce, ere darkness clouded my sight,
"GOODBYE-PUNY-HUMANS, this-is-your-last-night..."
